Recap: Northwest Halifax Vikings vs. North Edgecombe Warriors

If the Northwest Halifax Vikings were feeling good off their 64-18 takedown of the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Northwest Halifax was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 62-61 to North Edgecombe. It was the first time this season that Northwest Halifax let down their fans at home.

When it comes to explaining why Northwest Halifax lost, one person who can't be blamed is Camaya Adkins. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points. That was a full 50.8% of Northwest Halifax's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Taniya High was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.

North Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Diamond Wilson, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was ChyAsia Garrett, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.

Northwest Halifax's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2. As for North Edgecombe, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest Halifax will take on Vance County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vance County will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for North Edgecombe, they will be playing at home against Northampton County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Northampton County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
