Basketball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Genoa-Hugo/Karval hadn't done well against Kit Carson recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates enjoyed a cozy 42-27 win over the Kit Carson Wildcats. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amy James, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals. James has become a key player for Genoa-Hugo/Karval: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-9 otherwise. Jayli Lockhart was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kit Carson only three assists.

Despite the loss, Kit Carson still got an impressive performance from Avery Johnson, who earned 11 points and three steals. What's more, Johnson also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2024.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Kit Carson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval has already played their next matchup, a 35-8 win against Miami-Yoder on the 19th. As for Kit Carson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-28 loss against Eads on the 21st.
