Baseball Game Preview: C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

C.B. Aycock has gone a perfect 6-0 against Smithfield-Selma recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. C.B. Aycock will be playing in front of their home fans against Smithfield-Selma at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Wednesday, C.B. Aycock didn't have quite enough to beat North Lenoir and fell 9-8. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Falcons in their meetings with the Hawks: they've now lost six in a row.

Jones Winters was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Janeson Steele made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Poole, who scored a run.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 27th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 13-6 to Southern Wayne.

Smithfield-Selma saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was EJ Stridiron, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for C.B. Aycock, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

C.B. Aycock took their victory against Smithfield-Selma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0. Will C.B. Aycock repeat their success, or does Smithfield-Selma has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
