Football Game Preview: Burges Mustangs vs. Hanks Knights

The Burges Mustangs will square off against the Hanks Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Burges is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Chapin on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs were outmatched by the Huskies and fell 50-21. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Nezahul Cisneros and Daveon Singleton. Singleton had a great game and rushed for 201 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. Meanwhile, Cisneros was balling out in the loss, rushing for 163 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Hanks lost 35-14 to Andress on Friday. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

Burges will need to focus on slowing down Jordan Morales, one of several Hanks players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 26 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 230 yards on 15 of 25 attempts. 101 of Morales' passing yards were hauled in by Alex Robles.

Hanks' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Burges, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Burges came up short against Hanks in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 35-28. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Morales, who threw for 329 yards and three TDs while completing 79.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 49 yards.
