Baseball Recap: Old Fort Takes a Loss

Old Fort extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-13 in the process. They came up short against the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers, falling 12-1. Stockaders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Panthers since on Wednesday.

Old Fort saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew tackett, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. TackeTT has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

As for St. Mary Central Catholic, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-10. The game was the first time they have beaten Old Fort on their field since May 13, 2017.

On St. Mary Central Catholic's side, Reid Wikel was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Wikel has posted since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. St. Mary Central Catholic is undefeated when Wikel posts two or more stolen bases, but 9-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Finneran, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brayden Gill, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

While Old Fort had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
