Basketball Recap: Porter Ridge Takes a Loss

Porter Ridge has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 72-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weddington Warriors on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Porter Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ashanti Taylor dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 boards. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Olha Hetalo also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Leading Weddington to victory were Caroline Clark and Madison Motto. Clark went 9 of 15 from beyond the arc on her way to 29 points, while Motto dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Clark a new career-high in points. Sydney Sitren was another key player, as she made all 6 shots she took racking up 12 points and five boards.

Porter Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Weddington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Porter Ridge and Weddington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Porter Ridge will challenge Cuthbertson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 316 places (58 vs. 374). Porter Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Weddington (ranked 96th) will meet Sun Valley (ranked 354th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
