Baseball Recap: Augusta Panthers vs. Pendleton County Wildcats
Augusta had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it eight. They came up short against the Pendleton County Wildcats, falling 21-4. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
As for Pendleton County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
For Pendleton County's part, Colton Ortlieb was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. That's the most strikeouts Ortlieb has posted over his last four matchups. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Pendleton County got a massive performance out of Micah Biddle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Biddle a new career-high. Ellis Shutters also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Augusta will take on Newport at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pendleton County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mason County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
