Millbrook and Wakefield are an even 5-5 against one another  since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to  square off against the Wolverines  at 7:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Millbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7  runs per game  this season.
Millbrook took a eight-run  loss the last time they faced off against Wake Forest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  5-3  win over the Cougars  on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Cougars on their field since May 5, 2023.

 Connor Wright was a  major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out seven batters over  six innings while giving up just one earned  (and two unearned) runs off   five  hits. That's the most  strikeouts  he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate,  getting on base  in four of his five plate appearances.
 In other batting news, Millbrook got a big performance out of  Jack Strom, who  got on base  in all five of his plate appearances with two  runs and one  stolen base. Strom has been hot recently, having  posted  at least one  stolen base the last four times he's  played. Another player making a difference was  Hayden Heath, who  got on base  in three of his four plate appearances with one  run, one  double,  and one  RBI.
Meanwhile, Wakefield got the win against Rolesville  on Tuesday by a conclusive  8-2. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six  runs or more this season.
Like Millbrook, Wakefield also got a great game from a two-way player:  Ben Dudash. He  pitched one inning while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits. Dudash was also solid in the batter's box,  going 2-for-3 with one  triple, one  run,  and one  double.
 In other pitching news,  Tyler Rotellini tossed a big game,   not allowing a single  earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched.
 Back at the plate,  Hunter Lentz was  incredible,  going a perfect 1-for-1 with three  RBI, one  triple,  and one  stolen base. That  triple marked the first that  he has  hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of  Eli Gross, who  went 1-for-3 with one  double and one  RBI.
 Wakefield  hit smart and  finished the game with only two  strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters  in four consecutive  games.
 Wakefield is  on a roll lately: they've  won 15 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3-1 record  this season. The  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Millbrook,  the  win made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 18-8.
Millbrook's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's   match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season,  having  averaged 3.6  stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wakefield, though, as  they've been averaging  only 1.2  stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Millbrook continue to outrun the ball?
 Millbrook came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield when the teams last played  back in April, sneaking past  5-3. Will the Wildcats repeat their success,  or do  the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
