Recap: Severance Silver Knights vs. Lutheran Lions
It was a good run, but the Severance Silver Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lutheran. Severance lost against Lutheran in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 55-39 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Severance lost, one person who can't be blamed is Attley Helzer. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Zink, who scored ten points.
Berkley Schneider was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with seven rebounds for Lutheran. That makes it four consecutive games in which Schneider has scored at least 25% of Lutheran's points. Makenna Mudd was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Severance's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Lutheran, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Severance will challenge Skyline at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Lutheran, they will head out on the road to face off against Cheyenne Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cheyenne Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Lutheran is ranked 85th).
