Narbonne hosts Serra in top all-California contest; St. John Bosco faces Mililani in Hawaii.

With interstate matchups all but done, California football teams can now focus on other Golden Staters.

This week's top game — No. 9 Serra (Gardena) at No. 7 Narbonne (Harbor City) — annually features many of the elite players in the state. This year is no exception with the Gauchos featuring one of the nation's top junior quarterbacks in Jacob Garcia and the Cavaliers boasting LV Bunkley-Shelton, one of the country's top wide receivers.

The Gauchos have grabbed five of the wins in the last nine meetings, including the last three straight.

The lone out-of-state game takes place in Hawaii, where Mililani hosts the nation's No. 2 team St. John Bosco (Bellflower) on Saturday. (California rankings noted).

Calabasas got six touchdown passes from Casey in a 46-35 win last week over previous No. 15 La Habra. JSerra won 49-21 at Calabasas last season. Both teams enter 3-1.

Top Players

St. John Bosco: QB DJ Uiagalelei (6-4, 245), LB Kourt Williams II (6-1, 215), OL Drake Metcalf (6-2, 275), WR Kris Hutson (5-10, 175), WR Beaux Collins (6-2, 195)

St. John Bosco makes the 2,500-mile trip to the islands and both teams enter undefeated. The Braves have looked like one of the most dominant teams in the country winning by more than 30 points per game and Mililani has rolled to a 6-0 record in 2019. These two played last year and Uiagalelei threw for 380 yards and six touchdowns in the Braves' 52-14 win.

Top Players

Buchanan: RB Kendall Milton (6-2, 208), CB CJ Jones (5-11, 175), LB Matthew Merritt (6-2, 255), QB DJ Stevenson (6-3, 200), WR Brandon Hernandez (6-0, 180).

Milton, a Georgia commit, gave De La Salle all it could handle last season in Clovis before losing 31-24, rushing for 108 yards and three touchdowns in that game. De La Salle (3-1) is coming off a highly physical and emotional 42-27 win at Folsom.  Buchanan (3-1), after a season-opening loss to Narbonne, has won three straight.

7 p.m. Friday

Top Players

Centennial: WR Gary Bryant (5-11, 165), DE Korey Foreman (6-5, 270), CB Isaiah Young (5-10, 165), WR Branden Alvarez (5-10, 175), RB Nicholas Floyd (5-10, 190)

Long Beach Poly: C James Maae (6-2, 327), WR Ashun Brown (5-10, 170), CB Torion White (6-0, 175), CB Amajay Gravelly (5-8, 150)

Poly (1-2) gave ninth-ranked Serra all it could handle before losing 27-24. Brown is by far Poly's top offensive threat with four touchdowns catches. After a tough last-minute defeat at Cathedral Catholic two weeks ago, Centennial responded with a 63-29 win over Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) as preseason All-American Bryant caught five touchdown passes. Since 2004, the programs have faced off four times, with Poly winning three. Centennial won the last game, 42-34, in 2014.

7 p.m. Friday

Top Players

St. Mary's: WR Jadyn Marshall (6-0, 185), RB Tyrei Washington (5-9, 195), QB Noah May (6-3, 190), WR-SS Elijah Wood (6-3, 210).

Mission Viejo: DE Lance Keneley (6-4, 250), OT Keanu Tanuvasa (6-4, 275),  OG Tommy Mirabella (6-4, 290), RB Tyson Scott (5-10, 190)

Mission Viejo (4-0) is coming off a 59-0 win over Villa Park and has allowed just 30 points all season. The Rams are 1-2 and improving weekly and would love nothing more than to pull the upset in Southern California. The two programs have never met.

No. 22 Liberty (Brentwood) vs. Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) at Freedom (Oakley)
6 p.m. Saturday

Top Players

Liberty: QB Jay Butterfield (6-6, 205), RB Brenden Bell (5-10, 185), WR Cody Muth (6-1, 185), OL/DL Payton Zdroik (6-1, 265), OL/DL Akili Calhoun (6-4, 250)

Cardinal Newman: QB Jackson Pavitt (6-2, 193), WR-DB Tsion Nunnally (6-2, 175), LB Mitch Russell (6-1, 205), WR-DB Giancarlo Woods (6-1, 185), RB-FS Shane Moran (5-10, 185).

Liberty (4-0) has pulled out three straight close games and figures to have another against one of the best small-school powers in California. The matchup of quarterbacks alone, between Oregon-bound Butterfield and the dual-threat skills of Pavitt, is worth the price of admission. Newman (4-0) pulled out a game in the final minute last week at Placer.

7:30 p.m. Friday

Top Players

St. Augustine: RB Byron Cardwell (6-0, 200), QB Angelo Peraza (5-9, 170), WR-DB Samuel Scaife III (6-1, 183), WR-CB Tyson McWilliams (6-3, 170), LB Connor Heffler (5-11, 205).

Helix: QB Kamryn Brown (5-10, 165), RB-DB Eleyon Noa (5-10, 200), WR Jahari Hill (6-5, 175), ATH Delshawn Traylor (5-10, 180), WR Timothy Christopher (6-3, 170).

The Highlanders (3-1) climbed the rankings with a stunning 45-27 win over then fourth-ranked Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) last week. They now hope to avoid the upset when they host a 4-0 Saints team that's outscored foes 188-12.

7 p.m. Friday

Top Players

Oaks Christian: WR Ethan Calvert (6-3, 230), QB Jameson Wang (6-1, 190), WR Bryce Farrell (5-11, 170), LB Dylan Devito (6-1, 220)

Murrieta Valley: QB Brandon Rose (6-2, 195), TE Jack Yary (6-6, 260), RB Corie Johnson (5-9, 170), RB DJ Watts (5-7, 175), WR Emilio Valencia (6-0, 180).

Oaks Christian, which was beaten 44-7 last week by Alemany (Mission Hills), can rebound quickly against a 3-0 Nighthawks team ranked 52nd in the state.  They average more than 50 points per game.

7 p.m. Friday

Top Players

Edison: RB-LB Mike Walters (6-2, 225), WR-FS Cole Koffler (6-3, 185), WR-CB PJ Campbell (6-0, 170), LB Payton Valentine (5-9, 200), TE=DE Trent Fletcher (6-2, 215).

San Clemente: WR Preston Rex (6-0, 187), QB Drayton Joseph (6-0, 180), RB James Bohls (6-2, 200), WR-SS Cole Batson (6-4, 185), LB Caiden Robertson (6-2, 220)

The Chargers (3-1) have won three games decisively, but dropped a tough 17-14 game to previously ranked Orange Lutheran. Walters not only heads up the defense, but he's rushed for six touchdowns. Since 2003, the two programs have met nine times with Edison winning five times, though the 4-0 Tritons have won the last three meetings, including 31-24 last season.
