Softball Recap: Portales Rams vs. Lovington Wildcats
Portales extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-13 in the process. They came up short against the Lovington Wildcats, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 last Tuesday.
Portales saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annaleah Lujan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
As for Lovington, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Lovington's side, Sabrie Sanchez spent all four innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Zabri Rodriguez and Honey Morales did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Morales went 2-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Morales a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelynn Holguin, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
While Portales had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
