Baseball Recap: Laguna Beach Takes a Loss

Laguna Beach entered their matchup against Northwood on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Breakers fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 2-1. The Breakers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Timberwolves earlier this season, when they won 7-0.

Becker Sybirski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Laguna Beach saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Yencho, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Laguna Beach's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 18-3. As for Northwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-13-1 record this season.

Laguna Beach will face off against Laguna Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Breakers 1.6, the Hawks 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Northwood, they will take on Paraclete at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
