Softball Recap: Edison Comes Up Short

After flying high against Union Local on Thursday, Edison came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Martins Ferry Purple Riders by a score of 2-1 on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Purple Riders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Bristol Leanza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Edison saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Boka, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Edison's loss dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Martins Ferry, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-3.

Looking ahead, Edison will be playing at home against Claymont at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Martins Ferry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
