Softball Game Preview: Grainger Grizzlies vs. Union County Patriots

The Grainger Grizzlies will challenge the Union County Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Grainger lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cherokee, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. Grainger put the hurt on Cherokee with a sharp 14-5 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Grizzlies.

Destanee Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, McKenna Kee was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-5. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. McKinley Mills was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-5.

Meanwhile, Union County had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over Sevier County.

Grainger might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Union County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Grainger avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
