Softball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

After flying high against Ellington on Tuesday, Liberty came back down to earth. The Eagles fell just short of the Bakersfield Lions by a score of 8-7 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.

Jayli Tharp made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shelby Holdt, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Bakersfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will take on Salem at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bakersfield, they will square off against East Prairie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
