Baseball Game Preview: West Cowboys vs. Briggs Bruins

West is 1-8-1 against Briggs since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cowboys will be playing at home against the Bruins at 1:00 p.m.

West is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game dating back to last season last Monday. They came up short against Briggs, falling 11-1.

For Briggs' part, Jaxon Mitskevich made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Mitskevich has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Briggs is undefeated when Mitskevich posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Martin, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Rodgers, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

The win was the eighth in a row for Briggs, bringing their record up to 10-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for West, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
