Softball Recap: Morenci's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It was a proper cat-fight when Morenci took on Benson on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 21-8 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by ten runs or more this season.

Cameryn Woodall was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Morenci let Kieralyn Madrigal and Jaliyah Hernandez run wild. Madrigal went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Hernandez went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those five runs gave Hernandez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mayeli Salazar, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

Morenci always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. They are 10-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Morenci's third in a row) raised their record to 13-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Benson, they now have a losing record of 12-13.

Looking ahead, Morenci will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Augustine Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats are facing the Wolves at the right time seeing as the Wolves are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Benson, they will welcome Round Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats will need to watch out since the Elks have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.
