Baseball Recap: Varela Vipers vs. Okeechobee Brahmans

Varela had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Okeechobee Brahmans on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-0 on Wednesday.

Andy Espinoza looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Yoidi Martinez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Alejandro Ponte was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

The win made it two in a row for Varela and bumps their season record up to 18-7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Okeechobee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-13.

Looking ahead, Varela will square off against Archbishop McCarthy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Vipers surely won't give up without a fight. Okeechobee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
