Volleyball Recap: Waynesboro Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

Waynesboro had won three straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 7-6 to make it four. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Riverheads Gladiators. For the Little Giants, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 win the Gladiators walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Morgan Sites paced Waynesboro's offense, picking up 17 kills. Sites got some help from Morgan Harlow and her 19 assists. Aaliyah Diggs controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

As for Riverheads, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-0 Fort Defiance (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.9% over those games).

Despite the defeat, Riverheads saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emily Herndon had 21 digs and three aces.

Waynesboro and Riverheads could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Little Giants (ranked 133rd) will meet Fort Defiance (ranked third) at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Riverheads will challenge Alleghany at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (286 vs. 28).
