Softball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Verdugo Hills Dons

The Kennedy Cougars will face off against the Verdugo Hills Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy will be strutting in after a victory while Verdugo Hills will be coming in after a defeat.

Kennedy's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Poly as they made off with an 11-0 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Parrots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Anais Perez looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sofia Melgoza, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Vivi Yanez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Kennedy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Verdugo Hills was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They fell just short of Chavez by a score of 3-1.

Verdugo Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madesyn Meadows, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Verdugo Hills' loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-4-1. As for Kennedy, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
