Baseball Recap: Greenfield-Central Takes a Loss

Greenfield-Central came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Shelbyville Golden Bears by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Golden Bears when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Parker Rhodes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Greenfield-Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zander Cobb, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Nick Flench also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Greenfield-Central and nudges their season record down to 12-12. As for Shelbyville, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Looking ahead, Greenfield-Central will challenge Warren Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shelbyville will be paying especially close attention to the Cougars' contest: after the Cougars face off against the Warriors, they'll take on Shelbyville again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
