Baseball Recap: Irvine Gets the Win

Irvine won the last time they faced St. Margaret and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Vaqueros walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Tartans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vaqueros.

Jason Alderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other pitching news, Matthew Sandoval looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Irvine let Owen Song and Caleb Rogers run wild. Song went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Rogers went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Smith Spivey, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Irvine's record is now 11-12. As for St. Margaret's, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Irvine will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
