Softball Recap: Amherst Triumphs

Amherst proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Stratford Tigers, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since April 20th.

Sam Nooyen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jackie Nooyen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Aubrey Chandler was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Amherst kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Amherst pushed their record up to 14-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Stratford, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.

As of now, neither Amherst nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
