Baseball Game Preview: Penns Manor Comets vs. United Lions

The Penns Manor Comets will challenge the United Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Penns Manor and three for United.

Penns Manor managed to slip by Conemaugh Valley the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Comets lost 11-1 to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Penns Manor saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Vojtek, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Vojtek snagged this season.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between United and West Shamokin, and West Shamokin kept the tradition alive. The Lions fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 10-9 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by just one run.

Cole McGinnis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Shaydon Oleksa, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

United's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Penns Manor, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Penns Manor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like United struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts.
