Football Recap: Paramus Catholic Comes Up Short

If Paramus Catholic was feeling good fresh off their 42-14 takedown of St. Thomas Aquinas last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Paladins took a blow against the Bergen Catholic Crusaders on Friday, falling 45-14. The Paladins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-7.

Although Paramus Catholic took the loss, they still got scores from AJ Lopez Jr and Chris Aldana.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bergen Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Busso, who picked up 119 receiving yards and two TDs. Busso really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 76 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Trey Tagliaferri, who threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.

Paramus Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Bergen Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paramus Catholic will host Red Bank Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Caseys' defense has only allowed 9.6 points per game this season, so the Paladins' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bergen Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Delbarton at 1:00 p.m.
