Canyon Lake are taking a road trip to take on the Cole Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Canyon Lake got the win against Crystal City by a conclusive 12-5. Considering Canyon Lake has won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hayes Holladay made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Michael Anderson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted over his last ten games. Bryce May was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cole). They came out on top in a nail-biter against Poteet on Friday, sneaking past 15-13. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly two runs.
Cole's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Zinnante, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Zinnante also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Another was Nathon Giardine, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Cole always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Cole and bumps their season record up to 4-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Canyon Lake, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 15-3-1 record this season.
Everything went Canyon Lake's way against Cole when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Canyon Lake made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canyon Lake since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
