Recap: Montgomery Aztecs vs. Hilltop Lancers
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sweetwater, The Montgomery Aztecs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They walked away with a 23-14 victory over Hilltop. That's another feather in the cap for Montgomery, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Montgomery found their leader in underclassman Andie Deanda, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Deanda's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zantez Thomas, who picked up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Montgomery's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Mike Mohr and his two sacks.
Hilltop's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nick Moore, who picked up 65 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Rio Nava who picked up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Montgomery's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Hilltop, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery will take on Olympian at 6:30 p.m. on October 27th. As for Hilltop, they will be playing at home against Sweetwater at 6:30 p.m. on October 27th. Sweetwater is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
