Softball Recap: Shade Falls to Ferndale in First Game of Season

Shade unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Ferndale Yellow Jackets by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Patty Kovacs was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Krupper, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Ferndale and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shade is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Forbes Road at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ferndale, they will head out to take on Conemaugh Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
