Softball Recap: Rio Grande Comes Up Short at Home Against Valley

Rio Grande unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 19-6 to the Valley Vikings on Saturday. The Ravens were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Jenessa Purcella led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Makayla Maes was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

The win was the third in a row for Valley, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Rio Grande wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 17-5 victory against Sandia Prep on the 4th. As for Valley, they have also already played their next game, a 17-6 win against Manzano on the 4th.
