Volleyball Preview: Star Valley Braves vs. Evanston Devils
On Thursday Star Valley will have to hit the road after five straight games at home. After both having extra time off, they and the Evanston Devils will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Star Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wyoming's top teams: Jackson Hole, who was ranked 25th in their home state at the time (Star Valley was ranked 16th). Star Valley skirted past Jackson Hole 3-2.
Star Valley was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (100-99), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 10-25, 25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 15-8.
Among those leading the charge was Maya Allred, who had 13 digs.
Meanwhile, Evanston had just enough and edged Riverton out 3-2 on Thursday.
Evanston wouldn't go down easily and took Riverton into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-9, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9.
Cassidy Coley was a one-man wrecking crew for Evanston as she had 18 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Robertson, who had 11 digs.
Star Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-19. As for Evanston, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-11 record this season.
