Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Sumter County's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Sumter County unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Carver Tigers by a score of 60-58. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.

Carver's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kobe Caslin, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 23 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Caslin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed five or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tobiaz Tolbert, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Sumter County's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-7. As for Carver, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2.

Sumter County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 41-38 loss against Spencer on the 18th. As for Carver, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Shaw at 2:30 p.m. Carver knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Shaw likes a good challenge.
