Football Recap: Aquinas Monarchs vs. Raymond Central Mustangs

Aquinas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 20-15 heartbreaker at the hands of the Raymond Central Mustangs. The Monarchs were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Aquinas lost, don't look at Landon Pohl. Despite the final result, he rushed for 59 yards and a pair of scores.

A big part of Raymond Central's victory came down to the chemistry between Wyatt Jelinek and his top target Tavion Johnson. Jelinek rushed for 69 yards and one TD while Johnson picked up 136 receiving yards and one touchdown. What's more, Jelinek racked up 167 passing yards, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

Aquinas' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Raymond Central, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Aquinas and Raymond Central will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Monarchs are set to take on their familiar foe Arlington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Raymond Central will square off against rival Lincoln Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
