The Avon Orioles will face off against the Lake Central Indians at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Avon has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Lake Central will arrive with five straight victories.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Avon's offense. They fell just short of Hamilton Southeastern by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday.
Addie Forst was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, she gave up only four walks, the fewest she's had since back in June of 2024.
Lake Central came out on top against Carmel on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run second inning. The Indians blew past the Greyhounds 18-6. Considering the Indians have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddie Such tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Taylor Schafer was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Maddie Wainwright, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lake Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carmel only posted an OBP of .423.
Lake Central's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Avon might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Lake Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Orioles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
