Basketball Game Preview: Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Graceville Tigers

Vernon hasn't had much luck against Graceville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Vernon Yellowjackets will take on the Graceville Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

Vernon is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They fell 26-16 to Cottondale.

Meanwhile, Graceville hadn't done well against Sneads recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Graceville blew past Sneads, posting a 51-9 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Graceville's win came from a few key players Vernon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zaria Nedd, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last nine times she's played. Aarshunni Curry was another key player, going 8 of 18 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Graceville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Graceville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points per game. As for Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Vernon suffered a grim 43-23 defeat to Graceville in their previous matchup back in December of 2018. Can Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
