Softball Recap: Batesville Comes Up Short

Batesville extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-5 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Connersville Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 19-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Batesville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cora Roth, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Roth's first of the season.

As for Connersville, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

On Connersville's side, Jade Green made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Green has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Maggie Spurlock and Taylynn Selby did most of the damage at the plate: Spurlock went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Selby went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Selby has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Arianna Escobal, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Batesville has already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Greensburg on the 1st. As for Connersville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-5 victory against Shelbyville on the 22nd.
