Basketball Recap: Maryland School for the Deaf Orioles vs. Mount Airy Christian Academy
After flying high against Covenant Life on Thursday, Maryland School for the Deaf came back down to earth. The Maryland School for the Deaf Orioles took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mount Airy Christian Academy on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Mount Airy Christian Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-41 two weeks ago.
Mount Airy Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Avery Witter, who went 8-for-14 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. What's more, Witter also posted a 57% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in November of 2024. Ava McGlaughlin was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.
Maryland School for the Deaf has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Maryland School for the Deaf will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hancock at 5:30 p.m. on February 24th. Mount Airy Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
