Recap: Whiting Oilers vs. Hammond Central Wolves

The Whiting Oilers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 75-29 loss at the hands of Hammond Central. While losing is never fun, Whiting can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Hammond Central is ranked 96th).

Whiting lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alyssa Quinones, who scored 13 points. Quinones scored a full 44.8% of Whiting's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Whiting's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-11-1. As for Hammond Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiting will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Griffith at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Griffith comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Hammond Central will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hammond Morton at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th.
