Baseball Recap: Limestone Has No Trouble Against Canton

Limestone owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Canton Little Giants. Considering the Rockets have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Alec Williams's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Evan Daxenbichler, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Limestone: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Gavin Kleist was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Limestone has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Canton, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Limestone will face off against Tremont at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Turks' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Canton, they will challenge PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
