Football Recap: South Hills Falls Despite Big Games from Jaylen Lang and Fabian Marez + How To Watch

If South Hills was riding high fresh off their 41-21 takedown of Walnut last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Huskies took a 29-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chino Cowboys on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 21-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

South Hills' loss came despite strong showings from Fabian Marez and Jaylen Lang. Marez rushed for 90 yards, while Lang gained 92 total yards and two touchdowns.

Chino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Hoover led the charge by rushing for 63 yards and one score, while also throwing for 124 yards and one touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes. Those 63 rushing yards gave Hoover a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Bull, who rushed for 100 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.

South Hills has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Chino, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-5.

Meanwhile, Chino is set to square off against their familiar foe Diamond Bar at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Bull and Dominic Tortorelli.
