Baseball Game Preview: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Valley Christian Warriors

The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will take on the Valley Christian Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Elk Grove comes in on 12 and Valley Christian on six.

Elk Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-7 win over Granada. Elk Grove's victory was all the more impressive since the Matadors were averaging only 3.17 runs allowed on the season.

Brady Ramirez looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

On the hitting side, Chase Groves was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Tristen Bartlett was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Valley Christian faced De La Salle in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 3-0 shutout. Give the Warriors' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Elk Grove's win bumped their record up to 29-6. As for Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 22-9.

Elk Grove skirted past Valley Christian 9-8 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Thundering Herd have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
