Basketball Recap: Edison Takes a Loss

Edison entered their game against Jefferson on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Edison Golden Bears lost to the Jefferson Mustangs at home by a 55-38 margin. The Golden Bears were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Jefferson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rafael Gonzalez out in front who went 8 of 10 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gonzalez a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nico Vela, who posted 15 points.

Edison's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-13. As for Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Edison wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 58-42 defeat against Seguin on the 31st. As for Jefferson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-35 loss against Highlands on the 31st.
