Baseball Recap: Apex Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Apex came into Tuesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Panther Creek Catamounts on Tuesday. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Catamounts, too.

Apex got a great performance from DANE PURDY as he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. PURDY is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Apex saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CULLEN KLINGEMANN, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was CONNOR MORRISEY, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Apex's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Panther Creek, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Apex will take on Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Panther Creek, they will square off against East Chapel Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.21 runs per game on average), something the Catamounts will no doubt try to take advantage of.
