Baseball Recap: University of Detroit Jesuit Comes Up Short

University of Detroit Jesuit extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-13-1 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the De La Salle Collegiate Pilots. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Pilots this season, with their most recent loss being a 6-0 defeat on Saturday.

Tommy O'Shea was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, University of Detroit Jesuit saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Hand, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for De La Salle Collegiate, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

On De La Salle Collegiate's side, Zackary Wagner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.

Coming up, University of Detroit Jesuit will square off against St. Mary's Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for De La Salle Collegiate, they will take on St. John's Jesuit at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pilots 2.2, the Titans 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
