Softball Recap: Brooklyn Comes Up Short

Brooklyn extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They came up short against the Independence Blue Devils, falling 17-0. If the Hurricanes were looking for revenge after losing 19-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in April of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Independence, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Independence's part, Lila Manfredonia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Manfredonia has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one triple. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April.

In other batting news, Addison Walchanowicz was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Paige Priebe, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

While Brooklyn had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
