Softball Recap: Commerce Has No Trouble Against Chisum

Commerce barely beat Chisum the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Mustangs 12-4 on Tuesday. The match marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season.

Charley Lytle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Lauryn Bailey was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Kaleigh Robrecht was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3.

Bailey wasn't the only one making solid contact: Commerce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Commerce and bumps their season record up to 9-15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Chisum, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season.

Commerce will head out to take on Lone Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chisum does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
