Basketball Recap: Kinsley Owen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Silverdale Academy over King's Academy

If Silverdale Academy was feeling good fresh off their 57-36 takedown of Boyd-Buchanan on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Silverdale Academy Seahawks fell to the King's Academy Lions 45-39. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Lions are ranked 29th).

Silverdale Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kinsley Owen, who posted three points in addition to ten assists, five boards, and five steals. Owen is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Braylee Raby was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Silverdale Academy's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for King's Academy, their victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3.

The future could be bright for both Silverdale Academy and King's Academy: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Silverdale Academy will look to extend Baylor's four-game losing streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, King's Academy will try to hand First Baptist Academy their sixth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
