Baseball Game Preview: Sage Creek Bobcats vs. El Camino Wildcats

Sage Creek is 7-1 against El Camino since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bobcats will host the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sage Creek proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Poway 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Josh Schutz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Sage Creek's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Sage Creek's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cam Ramirez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Danny O'Bryan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for El Camino, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Santa Fe Christian 6-5.

Kaden Zimmerman looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jonathan Mount was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Zane Nordquist, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Sage Creek now has a winning record of 7-6. As for El Camino, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Sage Creek couldn't quite get it done against El Camino in their previous meeting back in March of 2021 as they fell 12-9. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
