Softball Recap: Strathmore Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Strathmore ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Farmersville Aztecs 7-6. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Gracie Gillis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Strathmore let Emma Flores and Mollie Gillis run wild. Flores went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Gillis scored a run while going 2-for-4. That triple was Flores' first of the season.

Strathmore pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Farmersville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-2.

Strathmore and Farmersville will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Spartans will square off against rival Lindsay at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Farmersville is set to challenge their familiar foe Summit Charter Collegiate Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
