Preview: Essex Trojans vs. Lancaster Red Devils
Essex is 0-10 against Lancaster since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Essex Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Lancaster Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Essex has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Lancaster will arrive with three straight victories.
Essex lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Friday was a bit more commanding. They were the victim of a rough 53-28 defeat at the hands of Northumberland.
Meanwhile, Lancaster scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Rappahannock on the road to the tune of 84-32. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Lancaster has managed all season.
It was another big night for Troy Henderson, who scored 32 points along with five steals. Henderson is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Davion Smith was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals.
Essex bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Lancaster, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Essex was dealt a bruising 62-32 defeat at the hands of Lancaster in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Essex was down 38-16.
