Softball Recap: Cherryville Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Cherryville's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Lincoln Charter on Friday. Cherryville put the hurt on the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons with a sharp 18-0 win. The Ironmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 13 runs or more this season.

Grace Capps made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Emma Proctor was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Ava Miller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Cherryville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Cherryville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Cherryville will challenge rival Highland Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe Shelby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
